CHUCK SMITH SPEAKS AT OCTOBER 2011 FALL SYMPOSIUM

The Graham County Historical Society held its last symposium for a long time the evening of Oct 14, 2011. The society is preparing to relocate in the near future. The society and its cache of historical treasures will be in transition for several months.

Chuck Smith presented a harrowing tale of one of Arizona's most notorious outlaws, Augustin Chacon. Chacon was reported to have killed 52 people, although he was only tried, convicted and ultimately hanged for a singular murder during a botched robbery.

Others on the program included Danny Haralson, who gave a detailed account of historical developments in Graham County from the first settlers to the first water pipe, and Ralph Smith, who gave a presentation on sheep rancher killings in Bonita Creek.
